Gianni Molaro, AltaRomAltaModa, Rome

Hello everyone !

Today I am taking you into a different world thanks to Gianni Molaro’s
latest collection during the AltaRoma events.

Designer Background:

Gianni Molaro was born in Naples in 1966. He presents his first collection in 1989, and in 1993 achieves his first guiness record by creating a bridal train long by 327 meters.

In May 1994, he presents the largest bridal dress in the world, with a diameter of 13 meters, worn by a young bride in Caserta – the historic city centre was closed for the occasion. In 1998 he creates a bridal dress adorned with 7,000 diamonds (value of 10 billion Italian Lira).

In 1999 his brand is inserted on the roman Alta Moda events agenda by Versace, and in 2008, after presenting collections during a number of years and opening two locations in Italy, he designs the bridal outfits for the wedding of olympic champion Clemente Russo. In 2011 his brand is added to the agenda of AltaRomAltaModa.

He is also known for creating a record-breaking wedding dress in 2012, with a bridal train of nearly 2 miles length (the longest in the world), which was presented in Rome last June.

The Fashion show took place in the richly adorned rooms of the Turkish embassy in Rome, where Gianni Molaro created with lights a setting that gave life to his main theme: the sea.

The main theme of the collection presented in Rome this July was the sea and its inhabitants. The designer created for this purpose dresses showing a number of fishes in a way that mixes fashion and representation, by playing with light materials to keep the shapes feminine.

As the show went on, we discovered new (and very nice!) species
of jellyfishes, sharks, mermaids, goldfishes and sea urchins.

Some dresses were in a pearly white reminding a bridal inspiration, while some others showed the diversity of colours that marine life can offer, with tropical colours including blue, red, and yellow. Many clothes were created using patterns of scales to embody fishes in an even more realistic way.

One of the best things about this show was the absolute attention given to detail for the model’s hair
and makeup: each of them had a goldfish structure on the mouth and earlobes were transformed
into longer shapes. As well the hair buns were embellished with sharks, starfishes or even shells.
Thanks to all of these, the designer was giving us the impression that we were in presence
of some creatures from the underwater world.

The show was closed by a shark-woman in a very controversial grey and black outfit
which, once opened, left room for a wonderful dark mermaid.

Gianni Molaro is known for his controversial style but his limitless
creativity and imagination always emphasize feminity.

The next show I will write about is Nino Lettieri – and some Milan Fashion Week
insights are on their way too, so come back soon !
